In developing stamina in basketball, we have to consider different factors: 1. training period 2. level of working capacity 3. objective 4. age. On the amateur level, training at home is sufficient, you could start for example with 3×10 minute runs, then 2×15 minute, 1×30 minute runs. On the higher level, the preparation period should certainly include 30-45 minute runs, 2-3 times a week or even more often. Stamina types should run longer distances with the same tempo, but sprinter types shorter distances with interval method. Is stamina important in basketball?
Basketball is a very varied game, which requires very varied training and different abilities from the players. Coordination, maximum strength, explosive strength, and naturally stamina – all play an important part. During the game, one has to make high jumps, fast sprints and perform perfect passes and shots. For that we need a very high vertical jump, explosively quick ability to spurt and good coordination. But it is difficult to do all that if we have weak stamina.
