So why are the plyometric exercises so essential for a higher jump? Isn`t there really any easier way to rapidly improve your vertical jump? Unfortunately there is not. In most cases, each person is required to use plyometric exercises to increase significantly the speed and explosive of the athlete. Although there are many athletes whose vertical leap has been hindered due to power shortage, it would still be recommended that after the increase of maximum power the speed level should be normalized by doing plyometric exercises. Weight training increases our maximum power but as a result we might become slower due to the slow and burdensome movements we do when we are weight training. To be able to implement our strength for a higher jump we must affect our nervous system. Stimulating our central nervous system with plyometric exercises we can use our strength and explosive in a very short period of time which is required in the vertical jump.
However, each athlete is one hundered percent unique and each organism could behave differently. All training programs should be adapted to the needs of an athlete. There are also cases where the athlete does not need to add plyometrics to their training program in order to increace their vertical jump. Most likely they are athletes who are fast and agile but are not so good at jumping. In this case, the higher jump fails because of the lack of weight training.
Athletes who are physically very strong and large have generally become too slow because of the weight training. But when it comes to basketball players, their speed abilities are very important, as well as a powerful vertical leap. In this case the plyometric exercises are indeed most helpful. In conclusion, we can say that without plyometric exercises we will not reach our maximum capabilities. They don`t make us stronger directly, even though to some extent they actually do, but also help us to exploit our strength to build up our speed and explosive leves.
